My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I have never been very strong with my knowledge of Greek myths and this highly amusing novel from J C Wing helped add a lot to it, while at the same times producing many laugh-out-loud moments. This is the second book in the Goddess of Tornado Alley series and is an even better example of the author’s skill as a romantic comedy writer. The characters are all given believable personalities and dialogue with Frank, the main protagonist, holding this reader’s attention from start to finish with her unfortunate incidents and fearful thoughts. Her love interest, Archer, has been tamed somewhat in this book and his supportive behaviour is what we now expect. This is because Archer, a love deity, is now so obviously ‘twitterpated’, in the words of Thumper, by the wonderful Frank. She comes across as a young woman who has been so undeservedly unlucky in love in the past that now must be her time. Frank is kind, empathetic and considerate – even to Rosalie her weird mother. She does her best to help her best friend, ‘Ellaphant’, plan her wedding despite the offbeat ideas coming from the planner, Peri. There is a ‘deity war’ that threatens proceedings and includes Aphrodite, amongst others, which J C Wing describes with consummate skill and aplomb. This book is so much fun and entertainment it will appeal to any reader of romance – but with totally unexpected, delightful, twists and turns.
