My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed Book 3 of the Owl Manor trilogy. It reads very well as a stand-alone novel. The characters were excellently portrayed and the dialogue believable throughout the story; although there was a sentence near the beginning involving Victor Highmore and Victor Bradstone that I found confusing. I had to read it several times in order to make sense of its meaning. I know nothing about the Denver Goldrush period during the 19th century, but Zita Harrison's descriptions of the settings and surroundings were sometimes so full of appropriate adjectives and metaphor that I had to pause and re-read them for pleasure. The author's writing skill and use of language was a thing to inspire for me. The plot was compelling as a piece of Gothic fiction - a genre that I rarely enjoy, finding it so unbelievable. However, in this case I had to keep on turning the pages!
Highly recommended to anyone who likes this genre, and anyone who likes a good thriller.
